Throwback Thursday: Town hall Eindhoven

We have been developing Augmented Reality concepts since 2012 already. And honestly, some of those first concepts were really cool already! Concepts from the early days. Concepts we are still proud of and deserve a special spotlight once in a while. Hence, the throwback Thursday post! This time our very first AR concept…

The collapse of the town hall

During GLOW 2009 the town hall of Eindhoven was covered in wonderful light effects, creating an effect that looked like the collapse of the building. However, the GLOW festival happens only once a year (in November), which makes sights like this temporary. Using Augmented Reality we were able to recreate the effect.

Nowadays you can still scan the town hall (yes, by actually standing in front of it!) and the GLOW effect will appear again, making the town hall fall to pieces. Watch the video below to get an impression or try it yourself! Instructions for viewing this AR concept can be found at the end of this post.

Instructions:

  1. Download the Aurasma app for free in the Google Play Store or the App store
  2. Open the app and create a free account (wi-fi works better for subscribing)
  3. Search ‘Dutch Rose Solutions’ and start following our channel by clicking “Follow”
  4. Go back to the home screen of the app and open the scanner
  5. Scan the photograph below or visit the town hall and see it collapse on your screen with your own eyes!
