Who knows the dangers of the blind spot best, parent or child? Safe Traffic Netherlands has made it possible to make children (and parents) more aware of the blind spot in an interactive and playful way.
Together with Veilig Verkeer Nederland, we opted for game-based learning. Children nowadays grow up with XR technologies, so let’s also use it for educational purposes. Ultimately, the game ‘Uit De Hoek’ was developed for this. Within the game it is possible for children and parents to a fun and interactive way to (re)learn about different traffic situations – in which the blind spot plays an important role. What is handy about the game is that it can be played at home. So says Sandra Baars, project leader Parent Participation at Safe Traffic Netherlands: “An additional advantage is that they practice blind spot situations in a safe environment, very realistically”.
In addition, Out of the corner! not to be played alone, there is a competitive game element in it. With the app you can practice virtual traffic situations in pairs and collect ‘secret hints’ for the last level. During the levels, all players have to pay attention. Where should they be to be safe and how many secret hints will be collected for the final?
